Northwest Airlines has announced it is axing its non-stop London Gatwick to Detroit service from January 11, but will continue its service to the same destination from London Heathrow, launched earlier this year.
Recently merged with Delta, a Northwest Airlines spokesperson said, “Delta will continue to serve Atlanta and Cincinnati from London Gatwick, offering a large number of connections via the domestic network. The existing direct service between London Heathrow and Detroit, an important hub in the network, will be maintained by Northwest.”
The move could be a result of the impact the global economic downturn has had on Detroit’s struggling automotive industry.
